Central Board of Revenue Chairman Abdullah Yousaf said on Saturday the ongoing collections indicated aggressive revenue target of Rs 690 billion would be achieved at the end of fiscal year. Speaking in a PTV programme he said, revenue worth Rs 75 billion has been collected during the months of July and August, which was on target.
He said if pace of ongoing economic activity, growth rates and stability of economic policies remained intact, the set target of revenue collection would be achieved.
The Chairman said the department was making all out efforts to enhance contacts with the stake holder to fill the gap between payers and collectors and feed back in that regard was very positive. He said there was dire need to expand tax base and due focus was being made in that regard.
There are only 1.2 million tax-payers in the country which includes 0.5 million salaried people, he said adding there existed great potential for expanding the tax base.
He said unfortunately the tax paying culture has not yet been promoted in the country and the department was pursuing a professional approach in that realm.
Data base is being evolved wherein whole the information and evidence is being stored, he added.
To a question, he said in past most often the revenue targets were revised after fixing and even those were never achieved. Now, the trend has been reversed and process of further improvement is continuing, he said.
