The Provincial Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs, Qamar Mansoor has said that special children are playing a significant role in the society and they need attention to further build-up their capabilities and hidden talents.
He was speaking as chief guest at a prize distribution ceremony of special children at Dewa Academy on the theme of "Protection of our Environment", here on Saturday.
He said the paintings and posters produced by children on the theme speaks a lot about their latent qualities which have been blessed in them by Almighty Allah and they deserve every appreciation for their works.
He also praised their parents who, he said, want to groom their children to make them a useful entity of the society and score of them are already playing a praise-worthy role after having been equipped with knowledge.
The minister referred to the joint efforts made by the Board of Intermediate Education and the Academy in organising this function and hoped that other educational institutions will also follow the suit and hold similar competitions among special children.
On the occasion he announced that Sindh Sports Board will fix one day in a week to provide sports and recreational facilities to special children and directed the Academy management to work out details there if with his office.
He pointed out that department of Youth Affairs is doing a lot for the awareness and guidance of youth and in future will hold Inter-Collegiate and Inter-University programmes and Youth Festival this year providing abundant sports facilities for them.
Qamar Mansoor pointed out that when he had taken over the portfolio of Sports and Youth Affairs, its budget stood at Rs 15 million only but with continuous efforts it has now gone up to Rs 80 million so that funding problems are not faced in promoting youth end sports facilities.
Earlier, Chairmen BISE Iftekhar Hussein Zaidi and others also addressed the ceremony.
On the occasion the minister distributed prizes among top four position winners in the poster and painting competition.
In the posters competition Al-aifa of School of Deaf and Dumb secured first position while second, third and fourth positions were won by Mohammed Suleman, Ahmed Saleem and Saima Sohail of Dewa Academy.
In the painting competition the first three positions were bagged by special children of Al-Saba school while Farheen of Deaf and Dumb School won the special prize.
