NWFP Minister for Information and Public Relations Asif Iqbal Daudzai said on Tuesday that the MMA government has decided to establish journalists foundation for the welfare of media community and in this connection a considerable development has already been made.
The seed money of Rs 6 million is available for the purpose while funds would be further enhanced after a formal announcement of the foundation, besides allocating huge amounts in ADP, he added.
He was addressing as a chief guest at 6th anniversary of Urdu Daily Al-Akhbar Peshawar on Tuesday.
Syed Mehdi Hussain, Director Information, officers, editors, owners, bureau chiefs and working journalists associated with various newspapers and electronic media attended the function.
The Minister hailed contributions of Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah, Resident Editor for remarkable achievements of the daily in short period, its positive journalistic role and ensuring welfare of its employees.
He expressed the confidence that media owners would ensure timely payment of salaries and welfare of the working journalists to enable them perform their professional obligations devotedly and honestly.
Information Minister also termed debut of new dailies and electronic channels a good omen saying it would greatly help in accelerating the process of media development besides providing maximum job opportunities to journalists and to play due role in the progress of backward province like NWFP.
He expressed the hope that the NWFP journalists would prove their worth more diligently in times to come and would project our religious, cultural and developmental values effectively.
Referring to payment of advertisement dues to the newspapers, Asif Iqbal Daudzai said MMA government had released record amounts to media in this respect and not only advertisement dues of present government but that of past regimes were being cleared to create congenial atmosphere for the government-media relationship. He hoped media would extend co-operation to the government with same spirit.
