A veteran journalist and poet, Hassan Abidi died here on Tuesday of cardiac arrest, family sources said. The deceased who was born in 1929 in UP, leaves behind a widow and two daughters and a son to mourn his death.
Late Hassan Abidi, who was also a former president of Karachi Press Club, was laid to rest at the graveyard at Superhighway here.
Earlier, the Namaz-i-Janaza was offered at Imambargah Khairul Amal in Ancholi.
Hassan Abidi who started his journalistic career from Lahore, migrated to Karachi in 1960 and joined Daily Mashriq and remained editor in charge of Akhbar-i-Khawateen. In 1990, he joined Daily Dawn and remained associated with it till his death.
Hassan Abidi's three collections of poetry have been published and his biography has recently been published by the Pakistan Study Centre of Karachi University.
The Sindh Minister for Industry and Labour, Adil Siddiqui, has expressed deep sorrow and grief at the demise of Hassan Abidi.
He said that the deceased was a senior journalist, a poet and a man of letters. Adil Sidiqui recounted the scholarly contributions of the deceased. He prayed to Almighty Allah to rest the departed soul in eternal peace and grant courage and fortitude to the bereaved family to bear this irreparable loss.
Poetess Fatima Hassan has also condoled the demise of Hassan Abidi.
