Former diplomat and an author Najmul Saqib Khan said improving education system and maintaining confidence between the people and the state are imperative for building a strong nation.
Najmul Saqib Khan was delivering a lecture on "Japanese Experience and nation building in Pakistan", organised by the Area Study Canter Far East and South East Asia, at Sindh University Campus here on Tuesday.
He said Japan had introduced universal educational system and modernisation by abolishing age-old feudal system for the development of a strong nation.
Japan carefully studied the development process of other nations and then started bringing reforms for the development, he added.
Najmul Saqib said Japan realising the significance of primary education in 1871 introduced universal elementary education system, which has been remained as a model for the developing Japan as the strong nation.
The Pakistani diplomat, who is an author of a book "Japanese Experience and Nation Building in South East Asia", sharing his experiences said Japan with total population of 120 million had mobilised its human resources through education, especially technical education.
Despite the fact that it has no natural resources, except minerals, Japan had fixed its priority for the development through human development by educating its nation.
That was why Japan so far has won the 11 Noble Prizes while China won 3 and India won 3 or 4 noble prizes.
Najmul said Japan focused on its people to engage them in the industries, which developed confidence among people to compete the people of other nations. Japan also declared the education open for all people with equal facilities.
Objective of the universal educational system was to educate the people of Japan to understand the problems of the challenging world.
Japan gave slogan, urging the people to prove to be civilised nation and they believed that they were not civilised if they did not have education.
Former diplomat said the Japanese are very much organised and every person has been devoted to his work. Giving examples he said Japan and German people rebuilt themselves with strong efforts.
Today Japanese are not only Industrialist-minded people but they are also hardworking and good learners. They believe in mutual trust on each other and also trust on the state by promoting the social norms and values.
He said that the Japanese society was highly technical, which means the members of society are skilled, who know the significance of the technology for the development of their own country.
Now Japan is major aid contributor to the world nations as well as the second major budgeting contributor of United Nations.
He emphasised the need that for the development of a strong Pakistan the people should adopt modern educational system, learn trusting upon each other and work hard for national development.
Saqib said our efforts should be for developing a performing society, to have a development oriented thought and ideas for the betterment of the society.
He was of the opinion that for building a strong nation eradication of poverty, abolishing the feudal system, introduction of lands reforms would be helpful.
Vice Chancellor University of Sindh Mazharul Haq Siddiqui conceded that the primary education could play a key role for the development of nation and added that we all should have to focus towards better primary education, which is must for the development of human resources.
