All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (Aptma) has praised the government for launching express goods trains from upcountry to Karachi. In a press statement issued here on Wednesday, Chairman Aptma Arif Saeed said that logistic support to the industry, in the wake of recent expansion of textile industry, had become imperative.
He said that the industry is facing problems relating to choking of goods meant for exports to Karachi port, while the transportation cost has also increased causing burden on exporters.
With the beginning of oil-press goods trains, the exporting industry would be greatly benefited in terms of lead-time and the cost of transportation of goods to seaports, he added. He said that efficient transportation of goods from upcountry to seaports would also greatly help organising the supply chain management system for the textile industry.
Dualisation of railway tracks at the earliest could substantially help in the running of more express trains. He demanded initiation of the project as early as possible so that the industry could get efficient infrastructure facilities to compete in the international market.
