Chairman Wapda, Tariq Hamid has said that the authority is making every effort to further improve Wapda's medical system, as there is no parallel to an in-house treatment due to a sense of ownership among the employees of an organisation.
He was addressing a two-day conference of the senior managers of Wapda health care system, held here at Wapda Hospital Complex on Wednesday.
Highlighting the importance of patient-doctor relations, Tariq stressed upon the doctors to adopt a compassionate and caring attitude towards their patients, as they all were the members of the same family. The doctors can help propel an early recovery of the patients by showing sincere concern and professional dedication. Above all, patient satisfaction must be ensured at all cost as it provides essential impetus for a speedy recovery, he added.
Tariq told the participants that during the last year, Rs 1,394 million were spent for providing free-of-cost health facilities to 0.15 million Wapda employees. A sum of Rs 1,462 million has been earmarked for the current fiscal year in this regard. More specialists are being inducted along with the introduction of state-of-the-art equipment for enhancing diagnostic and therapeutic skills available at Wapda hospitals.
General Manager (Admn), Brigadier Najam-us-Saqib, addressing the conference, opined the onus for better patient care rests with the doctors, as the patient in distress has a fragile psyche and generally, an ineffective communication skill, hence needs a tender loving care.
Earlier, Director General (Medical Services) Dr Afzal Sheikh, in his welcome address, said that the medical and diagnostic facilities were being improved at all Wapda hospitals and fortified dispensaries throughout the country. He hoped that the newly constructed 50-bed Wapda hospital at Peshawar would become functional by the end of this month.
