Sending of a Pakistani delegation to Gaza to hold talks with the PA and Israeli officials and the ensuing address of President Musharraf to the Jewish community of New York, have sent shudders among the Indian government and its strategists.
Their prime fears are that Israel would welcome Pakistan which enjoys a strategically important geographical location in the region and a unique status among the Islamic countries and Ummah of being a nuclear, powerful and comparatively much advanced country.
Israel and the United States Jewish lobby could cause a paradigm shift in United States policy in South Asia, which could even endanger their recently concluded mutual defence co-operation pacts with each other. Unfortunately, India knows of a potent potion to maim Pakistan's any such designs even before their taking off. "Raise the bogey of Pakistan recognising Israel", is the unanimous advice of the political pundits, "and target the religious elements of Pakistan to administer the dose".
Consequently, the Indian government, her strategists and the media - both electronic and print have embarked upon this scheme of affairs incessantly.
I think the Pakistan government and the intellectuals should also go full throttle to warn our religious political leaders and other simpletons not to fall into the trap or play right into their hands and apprise them fully of Indian nefarious designs.
They must also be asked to use their influence in educating the masses, regarding the benefits that the Muslim Ummah, in general, and Pakistan, in particular, would stand to gain from adopting such a policy for the future.
