A fresh wave of sectarian violence erupted in Gilgit Thursday evening after killing of a Pakistan People's Party (PPP) leader and injuring another as a result of fire fighting between two rival groups.
Talking to Business Recorder on telephone from Gilgit, Northern Areas home secretary Hafizur Rehman said the situation in the city is tense after the killing of a young political leader by some unknown people.
He said, according to information some unidentified men gunned down a young politician of Pakistan People's Party (PPP) Ramzan Ali Danish while he was buying fruits in Kashrote, Gilgit.
He said law-enforcement agencies have cordoned off the city and are searching for culprits. However, no arrests have been made till the filling of this news.
Heavy firing was heard after the incidence. However, law-enforcement agencies have controlled the situation and would not impose curfew on Friday, Hafiz added.
