Sindh Governor Ishratul Ibad Khan has informed the business community that the government is consulting with banking sector experts to establish Sindh Bank. Speaking at a dinner meeting, hosted by Honorary Consul General of Mozambique, Khalid Tawab on Tuesday, he expressed hope that the bank would start working soon.
He said that the government was examining possibilities to impose ban on use of polyethylene bags in the province. The governor said that the government was working on short and long term development plans to reduce unemployment and grievances of the public and to create new jobs. These projects have started giving results, he added
He noted that the city was facing shortage of power. Demand is around 2100 MW whereas KESC is producing only 1700 MW
He noted that the use of electricity was increasing rapidly and those who do not use air conditioners are now using it. KESC system is old and unable to bear the increased load.
He said that KESC has made an agreement with HESC to overcome shortage of 1000 MW and hoped that by the end of April 2006 this problem would be solved.
The governor said that 100 million gallons additional water project K-3 would be completed by June 2006. He said that in last three years law and order condition had improved drastically due to strict policies of the government.
He said that the government was working on environment pollution improving projects.
The governor expressed satisfaction over revenue collection and added that the government would increase speed of development work. He noted that investors were making investment in the province and hoped that more investors would take benefit of present government's business-friendly policies.
Welcoming the guests, Khalid Tawab suggested that the government should establish industrial zones on barren lands in the province. He said that the biggest problem in the country was increasing unemployment due to which crime rate was also increasing.
