Naimatullah Khan, former nazim, Karachi District Government, has reiterated urgency to address the sewerage and sanitation system in the metropolis to help masses avoid preventable diseases, more prominently Hepatitis A and E besides other common ailments taking toll on public health.
Speaking at the inaugural session of the annual conference of Pakistan Islamic Medical Association (Pima) here on Saturday, he hoped event with the theme "Preventive Medicine" would attempt to involve the health care providers, particularly doctors, to create public awareness regarding importance of prevention.
"In a society like ours where ignorance is rampant and literacy low masses facing resource constraints need to be engaged in programmes where a little care and focus on prevention can help improve their health status." he said.
Mincing no words that concerned departments also need to take care of sanitation and hygiene, the former nazim said there was also urgency to educate people regarding consequences of sedentary life style and importance of simple living more properly healthy and simple diet and appropriate physical exertion.
