An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Karachi on Saturday reserved order on bail application of alleged accomplice of sacked provincial revenue minister Imtiaz Ahmed Sheikh in kidnapping for ransom case.
Mahfooz Ahmed, an alleged associate of sacked provincial minister, along with other absconding co-accused, are charged with kidnapping Umer Iqbal 17 for ransom on June 28, 2003 from Qayyumabad area, Korangi, Karachi.
Arguing on bail application, applicant's counsel M.R. Syed contended that his client was falsely implicated on the case on the basis of political grudge and victimisation.
He submitted that FIR of the case was registered after the lapse of 21 months of the incident and the complainant and the prosecution could not be able to satisfy court about the delay. He sought release of his client on bail.
Special Public Prosecutor Mazhar Qayum opposing the application prayed court to dismissed the same.
ATC headed by Judge Haq Nawaz Baloch after hearing arguments of counsels reserved the order for September 17. The court, however, refused to accept the request of Imtiaz's counsel for extension in time for appearance of his client and fixed next hearing for framing of charge against accused.
Imtiaz Sheikh was granted interim bail by division bench of SHC and the matter is adjourned till September 15 for conformation of bail.
Complainant of the case Zafar Iqbal alleged in FIR lodged at Korangi police station Karachi on March 28, 2005 that accused kidnapped his son from his house on directives of Imtiaz Sheikh and Ateeq Ahmed Siddiqui and threatened his wife to pay Rs 1.5 million as ransom for his release. Abductee was later released on payment of Rs 700,000 at the house of Imtiaz Sheikh in defence area Karachi.
