The pilot of a fighter plane of Pakistan Air Force (PAF) was killed when the aircraft crashed in Mianwali district on early Sunday, the PAF said. "The Pakistan Air Force announces with deep regret the crash of a Mirage Aircraft near Pai Khel (Mianwali)," a PAF statement said, adding the aircraft was on exercise operational mission.
PAF Officer Air Commodore Tahir Ameen Butt confirmed the death of the pilot, Wing Commander Rizwanullah. No loss of life or property has been reported on the ground, the PAF statement said. Ameen Butt said the plane crashed due to bad weather and heavy rains in the area.
District Police Officer Mianwali, Aslam Khan Ghauri, said that the plane came down in the mountains area at around 8 am. "Police teams found the wreckage after intensive search. The wreckage was scattered in the mountains," Ghauri said.
