The third review of Pakistan-India Composite Dialogue at the summit-level will take place at a private dinner hosted by Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for President Pervez Musharraf at New York during the current week.
The Pakistani President and Indian Prime Minister are in New York to attend the 60th anniversary of the United Nations for which heads of major states are already present there.
Giving out the details of President Musharraf's current visit to the US, a spokesman of the Foreign Office told his regular Monday briefing that President Musharraf will also be meeting the presidents of China, Austria, Algeria, Gambia, King of Jordan, prime ministers of the UK, Bangladesh and Norway.
Also on the card was a meeting with the newly elected president of Iran Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. This will be their first meeting.
The opening statement read out by Naeem Khan said: "The President will address the UN Plenary Meeting on the first day of the Summit. The President's address will reflect Pakistan's perspective on the issues before the Summit, including reform proposals aimed at enhancing international security, development and human rights and strengthening the UN to meet the challenges of the 21st century.
"This year, Pakistan holds the Presidency of the UN Economic and Social Council (Ecosoc). The President will chair a breakfast meeting of the Ecosoc Bureau at the Head of State/Government level on 15 September. In addition to the Secretary General and leaders of several developed and developing countries and groupings, the heads of principal UN bodies and World Bank and IMF are expected to attend the meeting.
ROUNDTABLE: "The President will also chair a high-level roundtable on "Innovation and Investment: Scaling Science and Technology to meet MDGs". Several other leaders and senior industry executives and civil society representatives will attend the roundtable.
"The President will attend an informal summit meeting on Interfaith Co-operation for Peace, convened by the President of the Philippines. Pakistan has co-sponsored the event. In his address at the informal summit the President will underscore the need for promoting dialogue, co-operation and understanding among various religions and the key role Islam can play in advancing these efforts.
"The President and the First Lady will attend the welcome breakfast by UN Secretary General. The President will also attend a lunch hosted by the UN Secretary General for Summit leaders.
"The President will also attend a dinner hosted by the President of Mexico for Group Friends. The Group of Friends was formed at the Mexican initiative and has evolved common position on a number of issues in the context of the UN reforms. Pakistan is a key player in the Uniting for Consensus and has also been actively associated with the Group of Friends.
"The President and the First Lady will attend a reception hosted by President and Mrs Bush, which will be followed by a bilateral meeting between the President and Bush. President Musharraf is one of the three leaders with whom President Bush will hold a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the UN session. The meeting, which will provide the two leaders an opportunity to review the bilateral relations, regional and international issues of mutual interest, reflects the importance that US attaches to its relations with Pakistan.
"On the sidelines of the UNGA, the President will hold a large number of bilateral meetings, including, with the presidents of China, Iran, Austria, Algeria, Gambia, King of Jordan and prime ministers of United Kingdom, Bangladesh and Norway. A press stake out will follow meeting with Prime Minister Tony Blair.
MANMOHAN'S INVITATION: "Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has invited the President to dinner. The President has accepted the invitation. A meeting at which the two leaders will review the progress in the Composite Dialogue will precede the dinner.
"The President's other engagements in New York include: lunch with US-Pakistan Business Council and US Chamber of Commerce; address the dinner of American Jewish Congress; address the Pakistani-American women; meeting with second generation Pakistani-Americans; address and lunch at Columbia University and address to the Pakistani community.
"During his stay in New York, the President will have extensive media engagements. These include an interaction with Time Magazine with participation of journalists and business leaders, interviews with leading media networks, including CNN, New York Times, Washington Post, NBC and MSNBC. " The President will also visit CENTCOM Headquarters in Tampa, Florida at the invitation of Commander CENTCOM General Abizaid.
