The scrutiny of nomination papers, filed by candidates for nazim slots across the province, would be held on Friday, September 16. The candidates are vying for 5 city district nazim seats, 30 district nazim, 38 town nazim and 106 teshil nazim seats.
Election Commissioner Punjab, Rahim Nawaz Durrani told APP here on Thursday that the lists of candidates were issued by the respective returning officers on September 14, while objections on the nomination papers were filed by the voters on September 15.
Appeals against acceptance or rejection of nomination papers could be filed by Sunday, September 18, as the offices of returning officers would remain open.
The appeals would be disposed of by September 20, and candidatures could be withdrawn by September 21. He said symbols would be allotted to contesting candidates on September 22 while polling would be held on October 6 and the results declared on October 10.
According to data compiled by the APP correspondent on the basis of information collected from the provincial office of the Election Commission of Pakistan, 1017 seats out of the total of 44616 seats in the province remained vacant during the first two phases of the local government polls held on August 18 and August 25.
The newly elected nazims and councillors of 3462 union councils in the Punjab province would cast their votes in the third phase of election on October 6. Presentation of special identity cards being issued to newly elected UC nazims and councilors has been made mandatory to allow them to exercise their right to franchise.
Those who have not yet obtained their cards have been advised to approach their respective district assistant election commissioner with two recent passport size photos.
If they failed to present these cards at the polling booths, they would not be allowed to vote, he said.
