Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Awval Telecom (pvt) Ltd, Dr Usman Akhtar Kahlun has said that the government's deregulation policy has allowed the entire telecom sector to make a significant development in this field, which is a good sign for uplift of the country's economy.
Under the deregulation policy, the government has allowed setting up public call offices (PCOs) and also granted wireless phone licenses, which has helped companies/firms to take the telephone facility to door steps of people, he said in an interview with Business Recorder.
Dr Usman Akhtar Kahlun has said that deregulation policy in telecom sector is, in fact, reflection of vision of President General Musharraf and Chairman PTA Shahzada Alam, which has yield very positive results and attracted a lot of foreign investment in the country.
Giving background of Awval Telecom, he pointed out that it came into being in 2003 and with due course of time it established fixed line public call offices, adding, "after success of this experiment, we started setting up dial-up GSM public offices, making every call a local call across Pakistan, which is an honour for any telecom company."
"Our move of making STD call a local call has brought about a revolution in the telecom sector, forcing other companies to follow us," Dr Usman said. This step, he maintained, has ranked his company number one in Pakistan that is an honour of him.
He observed people friendly economic policies of the government have not only increased the revenue of phone companies, but also multiplied the national income in terms of taxes.
On August 14, 2005, we formally launched our dial up calling card and its calling rates are lower than any other company in Pakistan," Dr Usman claimed. He said that extending better service to customers and redressing their difficulties was the foremost priority of his company. "Subscriber is the boss," is our motto and we are following this slogan with full devotion, as this is identity of our company," he concluded.
