The Thai delegation, which is currently on a visit to Pakistan, has shown interest to invest in the livestock sector wherein a wide scope of value addition was available under public-private partnership.
The delegation led by Adirek Sripratak held a meeting with Punjab Minister for Agriculture Arshad Khan Lodhi and senior officials of Livestock and Dairy Development Department.
After a lengthy discussion, the delegation decided to conduct an elaborate survey to have an update feasibility report to take further steps on the matter.
The delegation members said that there existed a vast scope to work in the livestock and poultry sector, including installation of milk processing plants, establishment of modern abattoirs, corporate livestock farming for meat production, vaccine, drugs, semen, embryo production and marketing units and poultry-meat processing plants.
They observed that presently Pakistan has annual milk production of about 29.472 million tons out of which only three percent milk is processed, and mentioned that they intend to install small pasteurisation and processing plants in the milk producing areas.
Lodhi assured the delegation of full co-operation from the provincial government. He said that Punjab has a strong infrastructure in agriculture sector but the need was felt of value-addition and prevention of perishable items' facilities.
