Vowing to pass on Pakistan to the new generation in a sound state, President General Pervez Musharraf asked the youths on Saturday to be confident of Pakistan as it is now capable of taking on all the challenges and problems.
Addressing a large gathering of second generation Pakistani-Americans, he said they are ambassadors of Pakistan and the government and the people of Pakistan are proud of them for their concerns for their nation and roots.
"The task of the government is to make overseas Pakistanis proud of their roots and they must convert that pride into action for betterment of their country."
Musharraf said like rest of the world, Pakistan is passing through a very critical stage and so many things were happening which have an impact on Pakistan. He added it is for the leadership to act on events and not to react, and that should be done by any dynamic society and the government.
"The young Pakistanis are pillars of the nation as they are the future leaders of Pakistan, they must be conscious that the future of Pakistan will be in their hands and so the honour and the dignity of the country."
Pakistan has all the potential and resources to be a developed nation with fertile land, abundant water, energy resources and hard working people, he said, adding in the past what was lagging Pakistan behind was the failure of the leadership.
Musharraf said in the globalised and interactive world, progress is not possible without interacting harmoniously with the rest of the world.
Sovereignty of a country is directly dependent on the degree of its dependence on others, and honour and dignity of individual outside the country is directly related to the standing of the nation internationally, the President said. "Their respect will be enhanced with higher standing of Pakistan."
