The government has decided to continue with six-day week in view of the fact that a five-day week would not contribute to any substantial saving of energy. This decision was taken at a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz at the Prime Minister House on Monday.
The meeting discussed several other measures, including greater use of CNG in urban transport for public transportation, efficient energy consumption, fiscal incentives for importing CNG and LPG kits, public awareness programme on educating the people on conservation of energy and optimum use of energy through insulation of homes, home appliances, plants and machinery.
"All these measures should result in more efficient use of energy which is extremely important due to high prices of oil in international market," the Prime Minister observed.
It was also agreed in the meeting that the matter would be discussed in the next meeting of the Cabinet so as to take further decisions for conservation of energy on the basis of recommendations made in the meeting.
The meeting was attended among others by Minister for Information and Broadcasting Rashid Ahmad, Minister for Industries Jehangir Khan Tareen, Minister for Petroleum Amanullah Khan Jadoon, Minister for Privatisation and Investment Dr Abdul Hafeez Sheikh, Adviser to Prime Minster on Energy Mukhtar Ahmad and senior government officials.-PR
