The United States is to provide additional $30 million aid to Pakistan to support its efforts to fight narcotics and enhance border security. The US would also provide soybeans worth $10 million to Pakistan under Food for Progress Grant Program.
An agreement to this effect was signed between US Ambassador Ryan C. Crocker and Economic Affairs Division Secretary Khalid Saeed here on Tuesday. The grant is aimed at enhancing food security by encouraging improvements in agricultural productivity and economic development. The United States is to provide additional $30 million under an agreement signed between the two countries here on Tuesday.
The amount is in addition to over $60.90 million, the United States is providing to Pakistan this year for border security, counter-narcotics and law enforcement.
The fund is being used to procure vehicles, communication and surveillance equipment, personnel expansion in Anti Narcotics Force and construction of road infrastructure in remote border areas.
