Indian occupation troops have found a large cache of arms and explosives near the Line of Control, while four people died in fresh violence in the restive region, officials said on Tuesday.
The weapons include 14 assault rifles, a Russian-made rocket launcher, several rocket propelled missiles, 12 grenade launchers, six pistols, 85 grenades and 5,000 rounds of ammunition, said senior Indian occupation army officer Mukesh Sabharwal.
The cache found in the northern Dewar area also included explosive materials such as detonators, RDX sticks, battery-operated improvised explosive devices and remote control devices. "The explosives ... would have been enough to (make) more than 50 car bombs," Sabharwal said.
The occupation army also seized night vision devices, binoculars and radio sets.
"The arms and explosives were enough to equip several squads of freedom fighter groups," the officer said. "This is one of the biggest recoveries made by the army in recent times."
The weapons found Monday were "skillfully buried in natural caves in the mountains," Sabharwal said.
Meanwhile, police said suspected freedom fighters killed a civilian by slitting his throat late Monday in the northern district of Baramulla, while Indian occupation troops shot dead a freedom fighter in the neighbouring district of Kupwara.
