Firmer trend was witnessed in the interbank market on Tuesday as the rupee mostly held its overnight level for buying and selling at 59.85 and 58.86, dealers said. The rupee has managed to hold its last levels amid balanced demand and supply position, they said.
In the world markets, the dollar moved both ways versus the leading currencies, they added. The dollar gained versus the euro as political uncertainty continued to roil Germany after election. The polls failed to produce a clear winner between the Social Democrats and the opposition Christian Democrats.
In the Asian trading, it drifted lower as worries over resurgent oil prices weighed against expectations of an increase in the US interest rates, dealers said.
OPEN MARKET RATES: The rupee maintained its overnight level versus the dollar for buying and selling at 60.10 and 60.20 in thin business, dealers said.
The rupee posted fresh gain of 10 paisa versus the euor for buying and selling at Rs 72.80 and Rs 72.90, they said.
