A permanent system is being devised to keep the prices of essential commodities stable and to eliminate the menace of adulteration in the province following the directives of Governor Sindh Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan.
Sindh Governor has issued special directives to give special attention to this matter in view of coming month of Ramzan, however, he felt that along with the government measures, civil society pressure particularly of consumers is very vital in this regard.
According to statement of Governor House on Tuesday, under the directives of Sindh Governor, Principal Secretary Salim Khan has compiled a report about the system of essential items' prices and put forward a strategy in this connection in the light of findings of different studies and surveys.
As a result of these efforts, it has been decided to establish a Consumer Rights Council (CRC) on pattern of CPLC. It will start the work from Karachi in the initial phase and will be expanded throughout the province in the latter stage.
Sindh Governor will head this committee, which will also include 15 members of the civil society. Chief CPLC will be the secretary of CRC.
Its other members are Nazim F. Haji, Huma Bokhari, Samina Zahir, Dr Shahida Wizarat, Farrukh Nasim, Afshan Yousaf, Samina Babar, Farrukh F. Sheikh, Najma Khan, Zain Riaz Khawaja, Mohammad Yousaf, Shaheen Mahmood, Mirza Raza Ali and Rafiq Ahmed Bashir.
Dr Ishrat also directed the committee to design web site and to initiate publicity campaigns to keep the people informed about prices and steps taken to eliminate the adulteration.
He hoped that committee will play the role of broader focal point to achieve the desired results and would ensure the stability of prices and availability of essential commodities by breaking the cartel of elements involved in profiteering.
He especially emphasised to ensure to the action against the adulteration particularly in edible items.
