To address the issues for corporate involvement in Family Planning (FP) and Reproductive Health (RH) awareness and services in Pakistan, a corporate summit will be held at a local hotel tomorrow (September 23).
The summit is being organised by Human Resource Development Network (HRDN) in collaboration with the Ministry of Population Welfare, Green Star and KSM. Important dignitaries from the corporate sector have been invited to stress their obligation to take up an active role in social development causes, and for them to take a serious note on the gravity of the situations that ensure from Pakistan's population expansion.
Under the tagline of 'Involve to Resolve,' the summit will explore how the corporate sector could be engaged meaningfully for the enhancement of family planning and reproductive health services in the country, in ways that could also prove beneficial for them.
THE GUEST LIST FOR THE SUMMIT INCLUDES: Dr Sarah Clark, Director Population Programme, Packard Foundation; Dr Inamul Haq, Senior Health Specialist, World Bank; Imran Zafar, CEO, Greenstar Social Marketing (Pakistan); and Duff G. Gillespie, senior scholar, Bill and Melinda Gates Institute.
The organisers HRDN is a non-profit organisation dedicated to bring solutions to HR and HRD-related challenges, and is a resource pool of a fraternity of more than 400 development professionals and 100 organisations from all sectors.
Dr Clark says, "to carry out Dave Packard's vision, the Foundation adopted a new strategy for its population programme, and identified Pakistan as one of the eight priority countries on which to focus attention. Since that time, the foundation has invested US $22 million in local and international organisation working in Pakistan.
The summit aims at making the corporate leaders aware of the crucial link between sustainable development and FP/RH services and for them to invest in FP/RH information and services for an overall enhanced corporate involvement in FP/RH on a long-term basis.
