Prospects appeared to recede Friday for a deal this weekend by world financial leaders to cancel the crushing debts of the poorest nations, to the bitter dismay of debt-relief advocates.
Officials attending the annual meetings of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund said daunting technical questions still needed to be hammered out to finalise the debt relief plan announced by the Group of Eight powers.
