Amin Fahim on Friday night discussed political situation with Pakistan Peoples' Party Chairman Benazir Bhutto in Dubai and expressed resolve not to yield to the government's pressure tactics.
The two decided that there would be no more direct or indirect parleys with the present regime, as it was harming the party that wanted early elections under an independent Election Commission.
Party sources told Business Recorder here on Saturday that Amin apprised the self-exiled PPP chairperson of the latest political situation and opposition's preparations for the third phase of local bodies' elections on October 6.
"They discussed at length the post-strike scenario and results of the two phases of local bodies' elections and agreed that mass contact campaign was vital to build up pressure on the rulers, snowballing it into a countrywide movement", party sources said.
Both leaders agreed that they would have to join hands with the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal on 'minimum common agenda', setting aside reservations about credentials of the religious parties' alliance. PPP's Vice-Chairman said that some party legislators were under tremendous duress to change loyalties, sources said.
He sought Benazir's guidance on how to face the predicament and maintain unity in the rank and file of the party. She advised to accelerate interaction with party cadres.
Amin told Benazir that party workers were keen to see her back home to lead the party and keep its unity intact. However, he left it to her when to decide on her long-awaited comeback, sources said.
