President Pervez Musharraf is likely to push ahead the proposed curriculum reforms aimed at bringing what officials say inevitable changes in the syllabi of Islamic Studies and Pakistan Studies.
As a first step, the President may summon Education Ministry officials in the next couple of days to brief him about progress in this connection.
Sources in the Ministry of Education told Business Recorder that they have not been formally informed about any such meeting but efforts were already underway to bring about reforms in the syllabuses.
It is learnt that establishment of National Curriculum Council for review and implementation of curriculum is in doldrums.
President Musharraf, who is pressing the officials to revise the national curriculum, has once again renewed the pledge to make drastic and prompt changes in the syllabuses during his US visit.
It is learnt that he believes that revision of curriculum is inevitable to portray the country's image abroad.
Sources said that Education Minister Javed Ashraf Qazi has prepared a draft of national curricula to be presented to President Musharraf.
"We have prepared a new draft of national curriculum and are just waiting for a meeting with the President to brief him about it," they said.
They said that the President was likely to summon Education Ministry officials in the next couple of days to examine the progress so far made.
Meanwhile, the religio-political parties have reacted to General Pervez Musharraf's announcement in the United States that the government would make changes in Islamic Studies and Pakistan Studies syllabi.
They said that no change would be accepted in national syllabus merely due to western pressure and they would resist in a very strong way to foil the government's efforts.
