Federal Industries, Production and Special Initiatives Minister Jahangir Khan Tareen has said that the government would extend every possible support to the telecom equipment manufacturers in their pursuit of achieving global excellence.
He stated this during visit to the exhibition "Telecom Engineering 2005" organised by the Engineering Development Board (EDB) in collaboration with the Pakistan Telecom Manufacturers Association, here on Tuesday.
He said the Government of Pakistan considers telecommunication and networking as strategic infrastructure in achieving national goals.
He said telecommunication sector is in the vanguard of economic development in Pakistan at the back of revolution in IT and convergence of IT and telecommunication technologies. Recognising the importance of telecom equipment manufacturing sector in Pakistan, Tareen said the exhibition is a commendable effort of the EDB who has joined hands with the private engineering sector, which is playing a very vital role for the development of engineering sector of the country.
He also said serious endeavour is needed to prepare our engineering sector for global competition and promote export of engineering sector and services.
He urged the private engineering sector to enhance their competitiveness, skills and productivity. Pakistan was committed to attaining a leading edge in the engineering industry as the country has enormous talent and skills. Quality and competitiveness of engineering products have to be ensured due to their pivotal role in creating demands. We have to adopt modern promotional and marketing strategies to make in roads in the new markets, he added.
Engineering Development Board CEO Imtiaz A. Rastgar in his address of welcome said that the "Telecom Engineering 2005" is the outcome of partnership between EDB and Pakistan Telecom Manufacturers Association pursuing its mission of strengthening local engineering industry and making it part of the global supply chains.
He said this exhibition would provide an excellent opportunity to the visitors coming from diverse quarters to assess the strength, quality and competitiveness of the telecom equipment being manufactured in Pakistan.
The event also provides an excellent opportunity to indigenous equipment manufacturers to pitch their products at a large number of telecom companies in Pakistan as well as local traders who would be interested to collaborate with them for exporting economical Pakistani products in the world market.-PR
