President General Pervez Musharraf appreciated on Tuesday the existing momentum for enhancement of Pakistan-UK co-operation in diverse fields, as indicated by increased high level bilateral exchanges, new institutional linkages being created and growing commercial relations.
He stated this while receiving the United Kingdom's Permanent Under Secretary, Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Sir Michael Jay.
Micheal Jay is visiting Pakistan for Pakistan-European Union troika meeting and bilateral consultations.
President Musharraf expressed satisfaction at the pace of follow-up of the joint statements issued after his summit meetings with Prime Minister Tony Blair in London and New York, in November 2004 and September 2005, respectively, which were aimed at bringing the relations to a new level of co-operation.
Regional and international issues of mutual interest including Afghanistan and Iran were discussed in the meeting. The ongoing composite dialogue with India for resolution of all outstanding issues, including the Jammu and Kashmir dispute also came under discussion.
Sir Michael Jay appreciated Pakistan's vital role in the global fight against terrorism, lauding President Musharraf's courageous stance against militancy and extremism. It was agreed to continue the substantial bilateral co-operation in this area.
