The government of Pakistan has repatriated more than 0.1 million Afghan nationals from the refugee camps in Bajaur, Kurram, and two Waziristan agencies during last two months, sources in Commissionerate for Afghan Refugees told Business Recorder on Wednesday.
According to sources the repatriation of Afghan refugees from these four tribal agencies have been completed and the buildings allotted to the management of the refugee camps have also been handed over to political administration concerned.
The government has also issued warning to tribal elders regarding banning the recruit of Afghan refugees as domestic servants and if one found keeping Afghan servant would be punished with withdrawal of their tribal incentives.
The government has also issued directives for the repatriation of the 500 employees working in health, education and administration of the camps while shifting of furniture and other office equipment would be repatriated to Commissionerate for Afghan Refugees.
The government of Pakistan has started repatriation of Afghan refugees under a tripartite agreement with United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) and Afghanistan. According to the agreement Pakistan has to repatriate all Afghan refugees by 2006.
More than 30 million Afghan refugees were living in Pakistan since the intervention of the former Soviet Union in Afghanistan and later civil war of intra-Afghan factional. After the ouster of the extremist Taleban government and gradual restoration of peace and ongoing reconstruction drive in the war ravaged Afghanistan, the repatriation has gained momentum.
