Candidate of Alliance for Restoration of Democracy (ARD) for district Nazim Attock, Dr Mohammad Naeem Awan has accused the ruling league of threatening him to withdraw from the candidature. Speaking at a news conference on Wednesday, Dr Naeem said he was receiving serious threats since he launched his election campaign.
He said Punjab Chief Minister, Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi and former district nazim Attock, Tahir Sadiq would be responsible if any unfortunate thing happened to him.
Naeem feared that violence might be taken place in the district like killing of four PPPP workers in last year during Shaukat Aziz's election in the same district.
"I am receiving continuos threat on telephone and my car is being pursued by some strangers", he claimed.
Awan was of the view that Punjab Chief Minister wanted to elect his brother-in-law as district nazim unopposed, therefore he was being pressurised to give up.
Dr Naeem also blamed the Punjab government for providing two elite force vehicles to the former district Nazim Tahir Sadiq for his election campaign.
He maintained the entire district revenue offices and police stations had been converted into election campaign offices for supporting the government-backed candidates.
Violating the election commission's rules, Punjab government was also announcing development packages and using official machinery to gain the support, he maintained.
He appealed to the Election Commission to take serious notice on the violation of rules as well as providing him protection.
