Pakistan will push forward the early implementation of the ECO transit transport framework agreement and the agreement on promotion and protection of investment at the 15th annual meeting of the Economic Co-operation Organisation (ECO) Council of Ministers, starting from October 1 at Astana, Kazakhstan.
Pakistan's move will facilitate removal of existing barriers on trade and investment with the ECO region and give impetus to common goal of economic prosperity.
Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Makhdoom Khusro Bakhtiar will lead the Pakistan delegation at the moot. Prior to the ministerial session, the senior ECO officials meeting will be held in Astana on September 29 and 30.
The Council of Ministers meeting will be attended by the Foreign Ministers and senior officials from the 10 member states - Pakistan, Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, Iran, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.
The meeting will review implementation of decisions taken at its previous sessions. Decisions are expected to be taken to enhance the efficacy of the organisation and speed up implementation of important regional initiative.
The meeting would also adopt "ECO Vision 2015" as its basic reference document. It prioritises ECO activities and identifies key goals for the next decade. As one of the three founding members, Pakistan attaches priority to the efficient working of the ECO.
Being the co-ordinating country for the ECO trade agreement, Pakistan has been pursuing early implementation of this important document.
