DIG Faisalabad following the orders of Lahore High Court have suspended two police officers; Inspector Atif, SHO and Inspector Ahmed Ali, IO Police Station Gulberg. While SP Investigation Sargodha Abdul Hameed Niazi started the investigation of polices excesses.
Justice Abdul Rashid of Lahore High Court on Tuesday observed there was little difference between the police and criminals, which was why people's confidence in the police had been shaken. The judge called on district police officers (DPOs) to streamline the department.
The LHC judge observed this while hearing a habeas corpus petition by Sakina Bibi for the release of her two grandsons Ibrar and Arif alias Sabir from the custody of Gulberg Police in Faislalabad.
A bailiff secured the release of Ibrar and reported to the court that he was not wanted in any case, although Arif was required in 27 cases.
Ibrar and Arif said that the Khanqah Dogran station house officer raided their house and took away valuables but police did not take any action against them.
Arif said that he was implicated in false cases. Motorway Police Deputy Superintendent of Police Abdul Ghafoor told the court that he arrested Arif during a robbery on September 10 and handed him over to the police.
However, SHO Atif and Inspector Ahmed Ali gave conflicting accounts of the case, at which the court admonished both of them.
