Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Northern Areas Makhdoom Syed Faisal Saleh Hayat presided over a high level meeting here to review the law and order situation in the region.
During the meeting he proposed that a task force be formed under the supervision of the chief secretary to clean the official machinery of any wrongdoing functionaries.
He said the proposed task force should prepare a report in consultation with speaker Northern Areas Legislative Council Malik Mohammad Miskeen and Deputy Chief Executive Northern Area Mir Ghazanfar Ali Khan.
The minister said peace was prevailing in all districts of Northern Areas.
"We will not allow any body to disturb the peaceful atmosphere of Gilgit anymore," he said in the meeting.
The minister appreciated the efforts being made by peace committee of NALC headed by its Speaker Malik Mohammed Miskeen and assured full co-operation on behalf of the federal government.
He said for sustained development a peaceful environment was essential and added that the government wants to further enhance the annual development budget for the Northern Areas.
The minister urged the administration particularly the police to improve its professional skills.
He stressed the need for constituting peace committees on ward as well as village basis and said their recommendations should be given due consideration.
Faisal Saleh Hayat said every effort should be made to maintain peace and harmony during Ramazan and said that he would be visiting the region to review law and order situation in the holy month.
He said the public was peace-loving but miscreants wanted to disturb peace and they should be tackled with an iron hand.
Earlier, Chief Secretary Northern Area Major Nadeem Manzoor (Retd) gave a detailed briefing.
On the occasion deputy chief executive Mir Ghazanfer Ali Khan, Speaker NALC and home secretary Northern areas also presented their recommendations.
