Punjab government has chalked out a special plan for brining improvement in present system of marketing of agriculture produce of the province, and an amount of Rs 4,042 million will be spent by Punjab Agriculture Marketing Company (Pamco) during next four years.
The provincial Minister for Agriculture Marketing, Rana Qasim Noon said here on Wednesday that Pamco is a good example of private-public sector partnership. Pamco is an autonomous body, which has been set up with the help of government. He said that Zafar Altaf would be the first chairman of this company.
He said that the company would invest for saving the damage of perishable agricultural commodities. For this purpose, the company will work for establishing cold storage chains, processing plants and other facilities.
He said that Rs 885 million would be spent for setting up cold storage facilities, Rs 1,285 million on refrigerated vehicles, Rs 1,570 million on setting up processing units and Rs 220 million for agri information while Rs 82 million will be spent on agri marketing.
He said that efforts are underway to start agri business courses in agriculture and other universities.
