Sindh Employees Social Security Institution (Sessi) collected Rs 72.885 million as social security contribution from 17,481 registered establishments employing 0.319 million workers during August, 2005.
A report of Sessi on Wednesday said that the collection for August was Rs 4.0 million higher than the previous month.
At the monthly review meeting, Sessi Commissioner Marghoob Siddiqui expressed satisfaction over the amount of collection and asked those responsible to maintain the rising trend.
He said that the provincial Minister for Labour, Adil Siddiqui, had asked to increase the collection so that the registered workers could get better medical facilities and benefits as secured persons.
Sessi disbursed Rs 2.8 million as cash benefits to secured workers and their dependents during August. This disbursements included Rs 0.483 million paid as sickness benefits, Rs 1.214 million as disablement pension/gratuity, Rs 0.365 million as injury benefits, Rs 0.161 million as survivors' pension, Rs 0.024 million as maternity benefits and Rs 0.094 million as death grants and Iddat benefits.
A further amount of Rs 0.459 million was paid to workers as ex gratia.
Regarding medical services, the Commissioner was informed that during last month, attendance of outdoor patients at Sessi's medical outlets stood at 0.135 million, whereas 1735 patients were hospitalised, and 8,418 cases were referred to specialists for consultation.
During the month under review, 218 major operations were performed in social security hospitals.
