Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) will start a new cargo flight for carpet exports to the US from October 5. PIA's cargo department head Shahid Latif stated this while talking to carpet exporters in Lahore, a private TV channel reported.
Latif said the government had accepted the long-standing demand of carpet exporters and decided to start a new cargo flight, and now the number of cargo flights had been increased to five. Shahid Latif added as a result of increase in international oil prices, the cargo charges had also been increased. However, as soon the oil prices slashed, the cargo charges would be reduced, he said.
On this occasion, the representative of exporters Naeem Tahir Sheikh informed that Pakistan was facing stiff competition in the international market. If the government provided incentives the export target of dollars 250 million could be achieved. Currently, 60 tons of carpets were being exported through cargo flights.
