US stocks were down slightly on Wednesday as oil prices added to gains after US crude supplies fell more than expected last week, raising investor worries about fuel costs this winter.
Shares of big manufacturers like Caterpillar and 3M Co, which are sensitive to rising energy costs, fell.
The Dow Jones industrial average was down 2.63 points, or 0.03 percent, at 10,453.58. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index was down 0.38 points, or 0.03 percent, at 1,215.28. The technology-laced Nasdaq Composite Index was down 3.55 points, or 0.17 percent, at 2,112.87.
