A two-day meeting of the first South Asian Association for Regional Co-operation (Saarc) senior officials from energy ministries started here on Thursday to discuss and formulate recommendations for the Saarc energy ministers meeting to be held on October 1.
In his opening statement, Saarc secretariat director Amjad Sial highlighted the importance for promoting energy interaction among regional countries.
The meeting unanimously elected Pakistan petroleum secretary Ahmed Waqar as chairman of senior officials of the Saarc energy ministries. In his inaugural speech, Ahmed Waqar said the meeting was being held at a critical juncture for regional co-operation under Saarc.
Saarc leaders have given a clear vision of promoting energy interaction and a fundamental pillar of regional co-operation framework with the ultimate objective of creating a Saarc energy ring, he said.
