Commercial use of residential areas in Islamabad has spoiled the peaceful living of the residents of the federal capital. Guesthouses, commercial offices and various sections of embassies have been set up in the buildings exclusively meant for residential purposes.
This is not only violation of the Capital Development Authority's building rules, but also causing nuisance and disturbance for the residents as the noise of vehicles and rush of people all the time is badly affecting the normal life of the residents, especially women and children.
On the other hand, those people are pocketing millions of rupees while making payment of electricity and gas bills at domestic instead of commercial rates.
The residents of the federal capital have time and again lodged numerous complaints with the CDA that offices of embassies and private companies have been set up in residential areas, but the civic body is not paying any heed to the miseries of the people.
Women and children have no place to walk, whereas establishing commercial offices side-by-side embassy buildings is also a major security risk.
The residents also complained about the guesthouses set up in the area. The rules of the development authorities prohibit commercialisation of residential areas, but the CDA is completely silent over the situation.
The residents have asked the CDA to take prompt notice of the violations that has taken half-hearted steps during the past.
The residents have appealed to Interior Minister Aftab Sherpao and CDA Chairman Kamran Lashari to take prompt notice of violations and clean the residential areas of commercial offices and guesthouses.
