The balloting to select 90,000 pilgrims to perform Haj-2006 under government scheme would be held on Monday (October 3), Secretary, Ministry of Religious Affairs, Vakil Ahmed Khan said on Thursday.
Minister for Religious Affairs Zakat and Ushr, Muhammad Ejaz ul Haq would preside over the balloting to be held in the Committee Room of the Ministry at 5 pm. He said the date entry of 138,000 applications received under the government scheme has been completed.
The applicants who failed to get selected for Haj in 2004-05 would qualify automatically. The data of such applicants is with the ministry and they would be offered to perform Haj without balloting, he added.
He said that Nadra identification cards would be essential for the intending pilgrims. According to him, 150,000 pilgrims would perform Haj-2006 including 90,000 under the government scheme while 60,000 while private tour operators.
About flight schedule, he said, it would be around 40 days and the ministry would prepare schedules for government scheme.
The tour operators would directly deal with PIA and Saudi Airlines for preparation of flight schedules for private scheme. The Secretary said only PIA and Saudi Airlines would handle the Haj operation.
