The 32-member delegation of Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) will participate in the World Islamic Economic Forum (WIEF), being held in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia from October 1-4.
According to a FPCCI press release issued here on Thursday, Tariq Sayeed, will lead the businessmen delegation. A group of 10 businessmen is accompanying Prime Minister, Shaukat Aziz and the second group of 22 businessmen will accompany Tariq Sayeed. The delegation comprises renowned businessmen and industrialists of the country.
These included FPCCI former president Ifitikhar Ali Malik, S.M. Muneer, Akbar Abdullah and FPCCI vice president Azhar Saeed Butt, Arshad Riaz Fazil ECO ICPL, Zubair F. Tufail, chairman FPCCI standing committee on industries, Aziz-ur-Rehman Rajput, chairman FPCCI committee on tourism and travels, Younus Shaikh, Sultan Chawla, life members of FPCCI, Shaikh Rashid Alam, Syed Khurshid Akbar Shah, Pervaiz Zafar, Chaudhry Muhammad Asghar, Syed Shahjahan Salahuddin, Ghulam Umar and Umair Aziz.
The delegation also included 10 women entrepreneurs, few of them are Rukhsana Jahangir, Salma Waheed Murad and Mariam Issa and Iqbal Tabish, director research FPCCI.
Leader of the delegation, Tariq Sayeed said that WIEF was a follow-up of successful conclusion of OIC Business Forums.
The first OIC Business Forum was held in 2001, which was largely participated by business tycoons from Muslim countries including a large businessmen delegation from Pakistan. The second OIC Business Forum was held in 2004. It decided to enhance the area of activities beyond the OIC nations.
In this respect OIC Business Forum was renamed as World Islamic Economic Forum. The forum will work to ensure participation of business community, NGOs and civil society organisations from all over the world including USA, Canada, UK, China, USSR, India. The World Islamic Economic Forum is now a pre-eminent gathering of the world's leading Muslim statesmen, business leaders, intellectuals and thought leaders from all over the world.
Tariq Sayeed said the forum will be addressed by Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz and many other heads of states including Dato Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, Prime Minister of Malaysia, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, President, Republic of Indonesia, Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, President, Republic of Maldives, Dr Mahathir Mohammed, former prime minister of Malaysia, Prince Turki Al Faisal Chairman, King Faisal Centre for Research and Islamic Studies, Saudi Arabia, Raja Dr Nazrin Shah, Crown Prince of State of Perak, Malaysia, Dr Farhan Ahmad Nizami, Director, Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies, United Kingdom and heads of large Muslim-owned corporations and heads of leading think tanks.
Tariq Sayeed added that the speakers, presenters and moderators at the forum would highlight core and potential issues, forging the alliances for development and progress of Muslim world. He said that specific sectoral workshop dealing with trade, investments, human capital development, Islamic banking and finance, and tourism would be organised. Business matchmaking and one-on-one meetings will also be organised at the forum to facilitate business interaction and discussion on specific investment projects. He maintained that WIEF offers a tremendous opportunity to explore new business avenues and provides publicity of millions of rupees as the business tycoons from all over the world will amplify the importance of this gala event.
