Czech second seed Nicole Vaidisova advanced to the Korea Open quarter-finals on Thursday with an easy 6-2, 6-1 win over Japan's Akiko Morigami. The 16-year-old overpowered Morigami from the outset with strong serves and an efficient forehand to end the match in 50 minutes.
Vaidisova, ranked 24th in the world with two tour singles titles under her belt, will take on eighth seed Marion Bartoli of France who beat Saori Obata of Japan 6-2, 6-3.
Third seed Tatiana Golovin of France also secured her place in the last eight after brushing aside Mariana Diaz-Oliva of Argentina 6-1, 6-2.
Japan's Ai Sugiyama crushed an upset bid from Martina Muller of Germany 6-4, 6-3, setting up a tough quarter-final clash with Golovin.
Catalina Castano of Colombia rolled into the quarter-finals with a 6-3, 6-0 upset win over fourth seed Gisela Dulko of Argentina, while Laura Granville of the United States beat Nicole Pratt of Australia 6-2, 6-1.
Top-seeded Jelena Jankovic of Servia and Vera Douchevina of Russia qualified for the quarter-finals on Wednesday.
