The Swiss franc edged higher against the dollar early on Thursday following bullish Swiss economic data the day before and as other major currencies also regained territory from the greenback. The dollar also lost ground against other major currencies, including the yen after a rally on the Tokyo stock exchange.
The dollar last traded at 1.2903/06 Swiss francs, down from 1.2943/48 francs in late trading in Europe on Wednesday. The euro stood at 1.5560/69 francs, virtually unchanged compared to 1.5559/63 on Wednesday. The dollar had rallied earlier in the week after Fed officials said they were worried about inflationary pressures picking up and signalled that overnight US rates would head higher.
