Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz will inaugurate World Islamic Economic Forum at Sunway Pyramid Convention Centre here on Saturday.
The World Islamic Economic Forum (WIEF) is being organised by Asian Strategy and Leadership Institute (ASLI), in collaboration with Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC), Islamic Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI), Islamic Centre for Development and Trade, Islamic Development Bank and Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The WIEF is being organised with the theme of 'Forging New Alliances for Development and Process' and this forum would conclude on Monday after different sessions which would be held from October 1 to 3, 2005.
Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz would also be keynote speaker of the inaugural session of the forum while many other prominent leaders of Muslim World would also deliver their speeches.
The WIEF comes at a critical juncture in the history of the Muslim World. At a time when Muslim solidarity is urgently needed, there is also a vital need to reach out to the non-Muslim world and forge dialogues and partnerships between Muslims and non-Muslims world-wide. WIEF is an economic and business-focused organisation. It aims to strengthen business collaboration among Muslim businessmen throughout the world, including those residing in the West.
The WIEF provides a timely opportunity for business interaction and networking where ideas and business opportunities can be exchanged, Joint venture projects can be discussed and explored with potential partners. Insights can also be obtained by hearing the distinguished panel of speakers.
The WIEF is the follow-up of the successful conclusion of the second OIC Business Forum that was organised in Kuala Lumpur in October last year. More than 300 participants from 42 countries attended the two-day event. The WIEF will provide a vital platform for positive and healthy interaction between government leaders, civil society and business communities for the benefit of the Muslim community throughout the world. It will attempt to address key issues facing the Muslim societies ranging from business and economics as well as science and technology. The forum aims to be the 'Davos' of the Muslim world.
Apart from strengthening the economic and business co-operation among Muslim communities, the Forum will: provide ample opportunities to identify and promote business and investment opportunities among Muslim businessmen, promote dialogue and interchanges among Muslim and non-Muslim entrepreneurs, foster networking and interchanges with leading international business executives and political leaders, voice concerns and put forward proposals to top leaders and decision makers in informal discussions, update the knowledge and understanding of each country's priorities and plans for economic development, and strengthen the Muslim brotherhood in promoting viable joint ventures and smart business partnerships.
APP ADDS: The Prime Minister arrived here on Friday on a three-day visit to Malaysia after wrapping up an official visit to South Korea.
The Prime Minister will hold talks with his Malaysian counterpart and meet former Prime Minister Mahathir bin Muhammad.
In a brief talk with the Malaysian media soon after his arrival, Shaukat Aziz said that he would discuss further co-operation between the two countries, security issues in the region, trade and economic ties, OIC revitalisation and other matters of mutual interest in his talks with Prime Minister Ahmed Abdullah Badawi. The Prime Minister said he was looking forward to speak to the Islamic Forum, saying Pakistan considers it a very important event as it would gather people from the Muslim Ummah to draw a roadmap for economic co-operation.
He said by working together, the Islamic countries could leverage their full economic potential and by working with other countries they could develop it even further.
Responding to a question, the Prime Minster said he had brought with him some specific recommendations to take the process of economic co-operation within the Muslim Ummah forward.
On his way back home on Monday, the Prime Minister will make a brief stopover in Thailand and will hold talks with his Thai counterpart over lunch.
