An Iranian group has offered City District Government Karachi (CDGK) to invest $200 million in elevated roads infrastructure in Karachi. "The local partners of group have held a number of meetings with Karachi city government officials," an official of city government told Business Recorder here on Friday.
According to him, city government had accepted Iranian offer and confirmed it to representatives of the group, which was also involved in construction of Clifton steel bridge.
He said that priorities were being finalised to utilise this investment while plans were also being firmed up.
He said that the elevated tracks would be made with steel by utilising Iran's technology. "In the next round of talks, details of roads where elevated tracks are needed would be provided to representatives of the group," he added.
He said that initially some five roads have been identified, where elevated tracks were needed in view of heavy traffic flow on these roads, often causing worst traffic jams.
These include Shahrah-e-Faisal from Airport to Hotel Metropole; I I Chundrigar Road from Shaheen Complex to Mereweather Tower; Road from Karsaz to Habib Chowrangi in Site area; Rashid Minhas Road from COD point to Sohrab Goth; and M A Jinnah Road from Numaish to Mereweather Tower. Referring to the unprecedented growth of traffic in Karachi, he said that elevated tracks were a dire need to manage the city's traffic. He remarked that especially, the traffic problems, caused by VVIPs movement, would also be mitigated, once the elevated tracks were built.
