Plantation of date trees at an area of 20 to 25,000 acres has been started here in different places and will be completed before the start of winter.
For this purpose stalls for selling dates have been set up in Theri, Paryalo, Pir Jo Goth and other villages where cultivators can buy a variety of dates for plantation.
In the last year 25 percent date production was affected due to virus attack causing heavy losses to the cultivators. The virus-affected trees could not be used for new production, therefore, the growers have decided to plant new trees.
It is estimated that plantation on about 25,000 acres will be completed before the start of winter.
New trees are being planted while the virus-affected trees are being removed.
The growers are expecting a record production of dates in Khairpur as the newly planted trees start giving produce in the next four to six years.
