Commander Coast Real Admiral Iftikhar Ahmed said on Saturday that among all naval segments, Pak Marines have a unique and important role in defending the motherland.
"Over the last 15 years of their establishment, Marines have always proved equal to the task and carried out their duties with perseverance, dedication and diligence, the Commander Coast said, while addressing the joint passing out parade of Pak Marines and Pakistan Navy Police held at PNS Qasim, Manora.
He said that marines' role in creek areas has always been commendable whether it be assistance to flood affected people or defending country's coastlines under most difficult and unfavourable circumstances.
"History bears testimony that peacetime preparedness can only assure wartime success. It is our solemn duty to acquaint ourselves with the best possible use of weaponry and gain professional excellence during peace time to foil any nefarious designs and make the country's defence invincible", he said.
Real Admiral Iftikhar Ahmed said that in the present scenario, the role of Pakistan Navy Police has also gained importance, and hoped that the passing out PNP would discharge their duties with professional competence and devotion.
The Commander Coast also congratulated the passing out Marines and PNP particularly those who showed outstanding performance during and won prizes.
Earlier, Commandant Pak Marines, in his address of welcome, highlighted salient features of Marines and the PNP training and shed light on their role and achievements during various relief operations and operational duties.
Later, the chief guest gave away prizes to the winners. For Marines side, Comcoast Gold Medal and Trophy was awarded to Yaser Abbas for his overall best performance, while Qayyum Nawaz received runner-up prize. Medals for best in Marksmanship, Watermanship, and Ironman were awarded to M. Mubeen, M. Zarif, and M. Sadiq, respectively.
The PNCA gold medal for the best PNP was awarded to Muhammad Ali, while M. Rashid received the runner-up medal. Medal for Ironman (PNP) was clinched by Rashid Mahmood.
The ceremony was attended by a large number of senior naval officers, sailors and parents and relatives of the passing out term.
