Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim has called for strict compliance with rules and regulations in connection with the construction of high rise buildings in Karachi and said that proper NOC and necessary permission must be obtained and building plans got approved from the concerned department.
He stated this at a meeting in connection with the construction of high rise buildings held at the Chief Minister House.
The CM pointed out that there had been rapid construction of high-rise and multi-storied buildings due to population. But, he continued, it had been observed that provision of proper facilities of drinking water and sewerage system lacked in the new buildings with the result that there had been numerous complaints from residents on this count.
He said building control laws should be strictly followed and implemented in the province, particularly in Karachi where proper facilities of sewerage system must be ensured in newly constructed buildings.
He directed that in view of growing civic problems caused due to dense population, development of housing schemes out of the city should be encouraged.
He said: "New housing schemes can be developed near Northern Bypass, Nooriabad, Gharo and other places so as to solve the housing problems of the common man."
He directed that restrictions on high rise buildings around the Quaid's Mazar and other sensitive areas should be strictly enforced.
He said construction work initiated near the Chief Minister House and adjacent to Sheraton Hotel without issuance of NOC or approval of plans is highly objectionable. He directed the concerned authorities to ensure that all formalities are followed in such cases.
Earlier, Chairman KBCA and DCO Karachi briefed the meeting about construction of high rise buildings in the city.
The CM called for a detailed briefing in this regard after the local bodies' elections were over. He sought a comprehensive report about construction of high rise buildings in Lyari and Saddar Towns.
