The chairman, Alternative Energy Development Board (AEDB), Air Marshal Shahid Hamid (Retd), has said that a large number of German investors are keen to invest in wind and solar energy sector in Pakistan.
The AEDB chief, who is here, gave a presentation on "Renewable Energy - A growing market in Pakistan" to a select group of investors on wind and solar energy.
The senior officials of the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development and the Federation of German Industries (BDI) attended the presentation held here.
Highlighting the prospects of investment in wind and solar energy in Pakistan, the AEDB chief said that Pakistan has potential of about 50,000 mw of economically exploitable wind power potential along its 900-km coast-line and in a number of North-West Frontier valleys.
He said at the initial stage, the Government of Pakistan has decided to install 100 mw wind power plants. This project has been initiated by the AEDB and involves financing through the private sector.
Shahid Hamid said Balochistan offers excellent conditions for harnessing solar energy, where the sun shines for about 3,000 hours per annum.
The representatives of major companies like Association of German Chambers of Commerce and Industry (DIHK), Federation of German Industries (BDI), Ossberger (Pvt) Ltd., HOM Energy (Pvt) Ltd., German Energy Agency Limited, Federal Association of Solar Industries, German Foundation for Economy and International Cooperation, German Society for Technical Cooperation (GTZ), and the senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Germany, also attended the presentation.
